May 12, (THEWILL) – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclaimed any association with individuals, groups, or organisations claiming to act on its behalf to offer contracts, financial grants, or intervention funds to members of the public.
CBN’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, stated this in a release on Monday, warning Nigerians to disregard such fraudulent claims circulating via emails, phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms.
“The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has once again been drawn to the activities of individuals and groups falsely claiming to represent or act on behalf of the Bank,” the statement read.
“These actors continue to circulate fictitious offers of contracts, loans, grants, intervention funds, and other financial benefits allegedly issued or endorsed by the CBN.”
Hakama stressed that the apex bank does not authorise, license, or appoint any intermediary or agent to distribute contracts or disburse funds. She also noted that such claims were not only false but deceptive and potentially harmful to unsuspecting citizens.
“Despite the public advisory issued on November 18, 2024, via the Bank’s official channels and media outlets, these misleading schemes have persisted,” she said.
“The public is advised that the CBN does not conduct business through unsolicited messages or demand fees in exchange for contracts, grants, or interventions.”
The CBN urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest CBN branch and reiterated its commitment to protecting the public from fraud.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria remains committed to safeguarding the financial interests of Nigerians and continues to collaborate with security agencies to investigate and clamp down on fraudsters,” the statement concluded.
