October 20, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested some protesters, including Aloy Ejimakor, a lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
THEWILL earlier reported that a joint detachment of defence and security operatives, on Monday, forcefully dispersed the Omoyele Sowore-led #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters in Abuja. The protesters, including Sowore, Barr. Ejimakor and others, gathered around the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) headquarters in Maitama, before they were dispersed with tear gas, forcing them to scamper for safety.
In an X post, Ejimakor disclosed that police arrested him alongside others. He disclosed that all the arrested persons were taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the FCT Police Command.
“We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT COMMAND CID. Myself, Fine Boy and others. No 1 Zaria Street, Gariki 2, Abuja”, he wrote.
Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is facing a seven-count amended charge of treason and terrorism preferred against him by the Federal Government. He has been in the detention facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 27, 2021 when he was extradited to Nigeria, after he was re-arrested in Kenya on June 19, 2021.,
The #FreeNnamdiKanu is the culmination of weeks of public demands for the release of Kanu.
