December 24, (THEWILL) — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has deployed 783 personnel across the state to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce road crashes during the yuletide season.
The Sector Commander, Francis Ajatta, disclosed this on Tuesday in Uyo. He noted that the deployment is aimed at guaranteeing a hitch-free celebration amid the high volume of vehicular and human traffic traditionally associated with the festive period.
According to Ajatta, the personnel include regular officers and special marshals strategically positioned along critical traffic corridors and major routes within and across the state.
“To enable seamless and effective coverage of all critical traffic corridors and major routes, as well to ensure free flow of traffic within and across the state, the Command had deployed 783 personnel, including special marshals,” Ajatta said.
The operation is supported by 11 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and a light-weight tow truck to promptly clear obstructions and respond to emergencies on the highways.
Ajatta warned motorists against unsafe road practices, stressing that most road crashes during festive periods are caused by human factors such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, and disregard for traffic rules.
He also announced that mobile court sessions would be activated during the period to prosecute traffic offenders and serve as a deterrent to others.
“Whereas the Command has been engaged in regular public enlightenment on road use culture, and traffic law enforcement; Mobile Court sessions will also be engaged to deter recalcitrant traffic offenders during the period,” he added.
The sector commander further urged driver’s licence applicants who have completed their biometric and physical capture to collect their permanent licences.
He revealed that approximately 6,108 unclaimed licences are currently at various centres across the state.
Ajatta appealed to road users to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations, reminding them that life has no duplicate.
“Our family members, friends and well-wishers eagerly wait to receive and welcome us back home alive,” he said, cautioning that only the living celebrate.
