July 21, (THEWILL) — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command, has launched a statewide special enforcement exercise, Operation Shark Smile, aimed at reducing road crashes and strengthening compliance with traffic regulations.
The Sector Commander, Mrs Felicia Kalu, announced the operation in a statement issued in Uyo, describing it as a strategic initiative of FRSC Zone 6 to address the growing incidence of road traffic crashes through intensified enforcement and public sensitisation.
Kalu said the operation would be conducted simultaneously across all FRSC Unit Commands in the state in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations.
She stated that the exercise would focus on major traffic violations, including overloading, mix-loading of passengers and goods, number plate offences, dangerous and reckless driving, speeding, use of worn-out tyres, driving while using mobile phones, and failure to wear seat belts.
According to her, motorists found violating traffic laws will be prosecuted or made to pay the prescribed fines in line with existing regulations.
The Sector Commander said the special patrol became necessary to safeguard lives, reduce road crashes and discourage reckless behaviour among road users.
She added that the operation would feature increased patrols, wider coverage of major routes and a stronger FRSC presence on highways across the state.
Kalu urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations, drive responsibly, and avoid actions that could endanger their lives or those of others.
