March 03, (THEWILL) — The Rivers State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, confirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has transmitted the first batch of commissioner nominees to the lawmakers for screening and confirmation.
The disclosure was contained in a Government Special Announcement issued by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, and published on the Assembly’s official Facebook page.
According to the statement, the governor nominated nine individuals for appointment as commissioners and members of the Rivers State Executive Council.
The nominees are Professor Datonye Alasia; Mr Tonye Bellgam; Professor Temple Nwofor; Dr Peters Nwagor; Mrs Charity Deemua; and Tamuno Williams, a lawyer.
Others on the list include Mr Lekue Kenneth; Otonye Amachree, also a lawyer; and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The Assembly directed the nominees to submit 40 sets of their Curriculum Vitae, photocopies of their credentials, and evidence of compliance with tax obligations as part of the screening requirements.
“All documents should be forwarded to the office of the Clerk of the House at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters”, Amadi stated.
The forwarding of the list signals a move by Governor Fubara to reconstitute his cabinet and strengthen the machinery of governance in the state.
Rivers State has witnessed a prolonged political crisis since 2023, following a rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The political standoff had led to deep divisions within the state’s political structure, affecting the executive arm and the legislature.
However, the tensions were recently eased after the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in February, which paved the way for reconciliation efforts.
Observers say the submission of the commissioner nominees list marks a critical step toward restoring administrative stability and enabling the government to focus on policy delivery and development priorities across the state.
