March 19, (THEWILL) – Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding in the wake of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.
In an open letter to the people of Rivers, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful resolution of the political crisis, blaming the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers Assembly for the current turmoil.
Tinubu, in a nationwide address on Tuesday, suspended the state’s executive and legislature for an initial six-month period and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as administrator.
Addressing the situation, Fubara maintained that his administration had acted in good faith to implement peace agreements and uphold constitutional order.
He stated that, despite political tensions, governance had continued, salaries had been paid, and major projects had been executed to advance the state’s development. He accused the state assembly of frustrating efforts to restore stability.
Fubara urged residents to remain calm and assured them of continued engagement with relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure the state’s progress.
“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” he said.
