June 27, (THEWILL) – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.
THEWILL reports that the former Kano State governor resigned on Friday. Citing health reasons for his decision, Ganduje said in his resignation letter that he needs to focus on his well-being.
“I hereby tender my resignation as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (@OfficialAPCNg) and formally hand over the responsibilities of the office to my Deputy, following the party’s constitution and in the interest of continued stability and progress”, a post by the APC Renewed Hope United Kingdom, quoted Ganduje
Meanwhile, Alhaji Bukar Dalori has stepped in as acting chairman pending further decisions by the National Executive Committee (NEC) or a party convention.
Dalori assumes leadership under Section 14(2)(iii) of the APC Constitution, which mandates that the Deputy National Chairman shall act in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone.
Although there is no official confirmation of Ganduje’s resignation, the move is reportedly part of a strategic move by the ruling party to calm rising discontent among stakeholders from the North-Central zone, who have consistently demanded the return of the party’s top office to the region.
Ganduje was elected as the APC National Chairman in August 2023, amidst internal party conflicts. Prior to his election, he served as the Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.
