June 06, (THEWILL) – The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, says God Intervened in the Affairs of the Efik Kingdom over recent attempts to unseat him from the throne.
Edidem Otu V, the defender of the christian faith, disclosed this in his palace at Effanga Ansa when some royal houses including Ekpenyong Nsa Royal House Adak Uko Creek Town and King Eyo II House, Creek Town, paid him a solidarity visit.
The Obong, who thanked God for his love for the palace, advised the Efik sons and daughters to join hands with him and preserve the legacy their forefathers left to them several centuries ago.
In his words, “We thank God for He is bigger than man and stood by is during the recent crisis.
“God Intervened in our affairs and we must always hold him firm at all times.
“Truth has a home but lies have no home and keeps roaming about.
“We were shocked by what happened because of the things we saw and heard and also because it came from within not from outside.
“It’s not once or twice but this third instance shocked us most but we thank God for standing by us.
“Let’s love ourselves and stay together so we can keep what our forefathers bequeathed to is and not toy with the legacy.
“Disagreements are bound to occur but how you manage it shows how other people estimate your level of responsibility and we must always exhibit a high level of responsibility in our conduct and actions”, the Obong said.
Earlier, Eyo Ekpenyong Eyo Honesty II, the chairman of King Eyo Honesty House Council, said they, alongside other royal houses that make up Adak Uko, were in the palace for a solidarity visit to the Obong.
He said they are one of the clans in the Kingdom that have a right and say on issues of the Obong of Calabar and they are firmly behind Edidem Abasi Otu V.
Also speaking, Elder Effiom Ekpo Eyo Abasi Ekpo, the Etubom elect of Ekpenyong Nsa Royal House said there is no other Obong as far as the Efiks at home and in the diaspora are concerned.
He advised Efik sons and daughters not to disrupt the process that commenced long ago.
