Gov. Adeleke Hails Obasanjo At 88, Calls Him ‘Father of All’

March 06, (THEWILL) – Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has extolled former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing him as a father figure and a selfless leader committed to national and global peace.

Adeleke gave the tribute on Friday at the 88th birthday celebration of the elder statesman, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The governor lauded Obasanjo for his unwavering belief in democracy, recalling how he voluntarily handed over power to a democratically elected government as a military Head of State in 1979.

He also highlighted the transformational policies introduced during Obasanjo’s civilian presidency from 1999 to 2007, which he said laid the foundation for Nigeria’s development.

Adeleke said, “I want to thank God for giving Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to the world as a gift and peace ambassador.

“He changed the narrative of Nigeria by laying solid foundations that have shaped governance and national progress.”

He cited Obasanjo’s role in introducing the Global System for Mobile Communications which revolutionized Nigeria’s telecommunication industry and propelled digital businesses.

Speaking on his relationship with the former president, Adeleke expressed gratitude for Obasanjo’s guidance and support for his administration in Osun State.

He credited Obasanjo’s advice on upholding the rule of law for the state’s success in maintaining peace despite political challenges.

The birthday event, which featured the presentation of two books and a lecture, attracted dignitaries from across the country, all gathered to celebrate Obasanjo’s enduring legacy.
