February 24, (THEWILL) – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has maintained peace and stability across the state despite alleged attempts by opposition elements to incite unrest, his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, has said.
Rasheed dismissed as “libelous and defamatory” allegations that top government officials were importing thugs into the state, describing such claims as baseless and unfounded.
He credited Adeleke’s crisis management skills for diffusing tensions, stating that the governor, a trained security expert and criminologist, has effectively deployed conflict resolution strategies to safeguard the state from chaos.
He said, “The mapping of the entire state showed that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) was determined to plunge Osun into crisis and destroy its political structures,”
“But the governor strategically denied them the fuel for their arsonistic plan, ensuring that Osun remains peaceful.”
He added that the APC, frustrated by its failed attempts to destabilize the state, had resorted to blackmail and propaganda.
Rasheed explained, “The visiting governors—Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State—came to Osun on a solidarity mission as part of their statutory roles in the Governors’ Forum.
“Their message was clear: all parties should adhere to the rule of law and avoid illegal self-help.”
According to him, the recent violence in the state led to the death of five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, with 85 others sustaining injuries from gunshots and machete attacks.
He said Governor Adeleke promptly intervened, ordering PDP members to stay away from local government secretariats to prevent retaliatory attacks.
“The governor has continuously emphasized peace and has the full backing of Osun people to continue delivering good governance,” Rasheed stated.
He accused the APC of being a party notorious for “fake news, electoral failures, and a widely recognized lack of credibility.”
