June 06, (THEWILL) – Benue State Governor, Revd. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has congratulated Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh of Gbemacha State Constituency and Hon. Lamin Danladi of Ado State Constituency, over their election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly respectively.
The Governor also saluted the newly inaugurated members of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, promising not to interfere in their course of legislation.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, on Tuesday, in Makurdi, said governor Alia commended the legislators for their show of maturity during the voting process, saying despite their political differences, they displayed patriotism and love for Benue through their peaceful and orderly conduct.
The statement further quotes Governor Alia as calling for a harmonious working relationship among all Arms of Government in the state to enable his administration provide dividends of democracy to the people; charging them to, as a matter of urgency, set the ball rolling by contributing their quota as critical stakeholders to move Benue forward.
While calling on the contestants who won to be magnanimous in victory and eschew vindictiveness, he also advised those who lost out, to also be gallant in defeat, and join hands with the victors for the ultimate good of the state.
The Governor, who promised not to meddle in the affairs of the assembly, advised the lawmakers to operate independently without fear of interference from the executive.
It will be recalled that after the Governor’s proclamation which inaugurated the 10th Benue State House of assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh of Gbemacha constituency from Gboko West polled 17 votes to defeat Mrs Becky Orpin of Gboko East, who scored 15 votes.
In the first ballot cast, the two contestants tied with 16 to 16 votes, even as Mrs Lamin Danladi from Ado State Constituency, was returned opposed as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
The House has adjourned sitting till June 20, 2023.
