August 05, (THEWILL) – Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has promised to sustain training of media practitioners in the state to deliver on the mandate of informing and educating the masses on government programmes and policies in his administration.
The Governor made the promise at the just concluded one-day capacity building/training workshop on economic reporting, organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, in collaboration with the Benue State Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) in Makurdi.
Represented at the ceremony by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia noted that the media has helped in no small measure in propagating the policy thrust of his administration in the past one year.
While imploring journalists to ensure balance and accurate reportage of activities in the state, he assured that, over time, much conducive atmosphere will be created for them to practise their trade without hindrance.
In a goodwill message, the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajo, promised to collaborate with Journalists to promote good governance in the state.
The Speaker, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hon. Terver Adam, commended Journalists for adequate coverage of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly activities.
He called for sustained synergy, pledging to throw his office wide open for advice on how best to serve the people and sued for constructive criticism that would improve the system.
In his address, the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Antswen, commended Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration for ensuring the safety of Journalists and running an open-door policy.
He described the Managing Director of BIPC, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, as someone with vast knowledge of the economy as seen in the innovations he brought to the company since assumption of duty.
Antswen noted that the sponsorship of the capacity building and training workshop for chapel’s members by the management of the BIPC would help in sharpening the skills of members in the current trend of things.
He assured that members of the chapel would ensure ethical standards in the course of reportage of activities in the state, and thanked resource persons for their diligent work.
