February 04, (THEWILL) — Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dr Peter Egbodo, has assented that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration won’t shield any Public or Civil servant from Benue from scrutiny by anti-graft bodies.
Fielding questions from members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at his office in Makurdi, the Information Commissioner stated that invitation of any government officials to EFCC office is a routine duty in fulfilment of its statutory duties.
“The cases in Benue is not the first time. These cases under investigation should not be prejudiced as they are pending in courts.
“Governor Alia does not condone sharp practices as any government functionary involved won’t be protected by this administration. EFCC should be allowed to do their job on hindered for the court to determine the alleged involvement or not”, Egbodo said.
On Benue at 50, the Information and Orientation Commissioner stated that from 1976 to 2026, the state was ruled by 17 administrators, noting that governor Alia has made a difference in governance in the areas of education, health industrial development which were before in its lowest ebb in terms of quality and quantity.
He disclosed that Benue may not be there yet at 50, but there is a significant improvement in all sectors in 2026, pointing out that a committee has been setup to execute activities line up to celebrate Benue State, including projects commissioning.
Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Emmanuel Antswen, called on the Commissioner to involve members in activities for the celebration and beyond.
Comrade Antswen commended Governor Alia for the care and attention given the chapel in the past three years in office, promising to publicise government activities to the outside world.
