April 22, (THEWILL) – The Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has suspended movement of commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders from 6 pm to 6 am in Minna, the State Capital.
A statement signed on Tuesday by Bologi Ibrahim, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said the decision was announced by Governor Bago at a critical stakeholders’ security meeting, which was held at the Government House with traditional title holders in Minna Emirate and the heads of security agencies..
While motorcycles and Tricycles in medical emergencies are exempted, Bago described the action as a temporary measure aimed at addressing the growing security challenges in the State Capital.
Warning District, Village and Ward Heads to always ensure proper documentation of people they harbour in their domains, the Governor threatened to demolish any house or building found to be harbouring criminals and hard drugs.
Governor Bago also called on the entire Security apparatus of the State to ensure that they clamp down on criminals, their hideouts and their cartels.
“Bago equally cautioned Parents to warn their children, as anyone caught in any violent-related activity will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly with the full weight of the law, as the State government will continue to have zero tolerance on thuggery and rascality”, the statement added.
Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, Emir of Minna Alh Umar Faruk Bahaho, District, Village and Ward Heads in Minna, as well as Security Chiefs in the State attended the meeting.
