July 06, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State’s Governor Udom Emmanuel has warned against any act of corruption that might sabotage the success of the National Social Investment Programmes (N-SIP) of the Federal Government locally.
Emmanuel gave the warning in Uyo on Tuesday when the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development distributed letters and tablets to 62 trained independent monitors in the state.
The Governor, who was represented at the event by the N-SIP focal person in the state, Dr. Godwin Akpan, urged the independent monitors to ensure that the Conditional Cash Transfer, School Feeding Programme and N-Power and others succeeded.
He said: “I thank the Federal Government for the laudable social security programme of the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The N-SIP programme, including the Conditional Cash Transfer, School Feeding Programme, N-Power and others are aimed at taking Nigerians out of poverty.
“The FG means well for Nigerians hence you must carry out this assignment with a high degree of sincerity and integrity. You must therefore eschew corruption and not ask for bribes.
”Your assignment is humanitarian in nature and will not attract so much financial benefits but the state government will do all it can within it’s available resources to support you carry out your assignment.”
Speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Mrs Sadiya Farouq, appealed to the independent monitors to work diligently.
Farouq appreciated the President for his relentless effort to limit the level of poverty in the country through the National Social Investment Programmes.
She said: “The National Social Investment Programme was created by the President in 2016 with the mandate of lifting citizens out of poverty through a number of social interventions, which include: The Job Creation Programme (N-Power), Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF) and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).
“You may recall the flag-off of the five thousand training of the independent monitors of the National Social Investment Programme in Abuja on Thursday 4th February 2021. The programme was carried out across the country including Akwa Ibom State from February 2021 to April 2021
“This devices are equipped with an application that would be use to report on monitoring activities of the trained independent monitors.
“The application, which is called the Social Investment Management Education System, is a mobile and web-based application designed for monitoring the National Social Investment Programme. Using this application, the ministry sees real time reports of activities of the independent monitors on the field.”
The Minister further urged the independent monitors to work hard to meet up 80 percent of their deliverance monthly to be eligible for their stipends, adding that the ministry will disengage an independent monitor for misconduct and non-compliance with set guidelines and directives.
Mr. Akpabio Akpabio, an independent monitor, thanked the Federal Government for instituting the social investment programmes aimed at alleviating poverty in the country and sees it as a privilege to serve his Fatherland.
Akpabio assured the government that monitors would carry out their duties and ensure that the activities of the National Social Investment Programmes got reported to the ministry
