February 24, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged newly sworn-in members of the State Executive Council to prioritize teamwork, unity, and passion, stating that these are essential ingredients for effective governance and the overall development of the state.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Uyo, Governor Eno described the new cabinet as a Joseph Team tasked with interpreting and implementing his administration’s Arise Agenda blueprint.
“This Executive Council can rightly be referred to as the EXCO of Consolidation and Expansion—A Joseph’s Team. Like Joseph, you have been handed a vision as contained in our *Arise Agenda. Your duty is to work collaboratively to deliver on the key planks of our governance blueprint for the betterment of our people and state,” he said.
Drawing from biblical references, the governor emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, accountability, and strategic problem-solving.
He cited the story in 2 Kings 4:38–41, where Prophet Elisha’s leadership and teamwork prevented a fatal disaster.
“You must work together, watch out for each other’s mistakes, and prioritize the common good. One person’s misstep must not be allowed to derail our collective progress. Your role is to find solutions, not to engage in blame games. Strengthen weak links and foster deeper team spirit for the overall success of this administration,” Eno stated.
Eno was unequivocal in stating that his selection of cabinet members was based on merit, proven competence, and capacity to deliver—not on ethnic or primordial considerations. He emphasised that their loyalty should be to him and the state.
“This is not a war cabinet but a *Delivery Cabinet*. The defining elements of this EXCO are unity of purpose, teamwork, and positive collaboration to fulfill our campaign promises. Commit this to memory and reflect it in all your engagements,” he added.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to fast-tracking development, Governor Eno warned that excuses and tardiness would not be tolerated.
“The budget has been passed, and the projects to be executed have been carefully outlined. We don’t have the luxury of time—we are in a hurry to deliver solid democratic dividends under the Arise Agenda” he declared.
To ensure efficiency, he announced the creation of Delivery Units and the appointment of Delivery Advisors, aligning with international best practices.
He further disclosed that he would personally chair meetings of the Project Delivery Team twice a month to track progress and ensure timely completion of projects.
The governor also warned against unnecessary confrontations with political leaders at local, state, and federal levels, stressing the need for decorum and respect.
“I am a man of peace, not confrontation. You have not been appointed to ignite conflicts with leaders. Our goal is to keep Akwa Ibom an oasis of peace and tranquility where investors and tourists can thrive,” he said.
Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, and members of the legislature for their swift screening and clearance of the nominees. He also appreciated members of the immediate past Executive Council for their contributions to the state’s development.
Among the 27 commissioners and special advisers sworn in were Hon. Aniekan Umanah (Ministry of Information), Rt. Hon. Henry Archibong (Ministry of Housing), Hon. Frank Archibong (Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Hon. Emem Ibanga (Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs), Prof. Eno Ibanga (Ministry of Works and Fire Service), and Comrade Ini Ememobong (Ministry of Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport), among others.
