October 12, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged Nigerian youths to embrace boldness, creativity, and innovation as pathways to achieving success in today’s competitive and dynamic world.
Governor Eno gave the charge at the Visual Conference and Award Night 2025 held in Uyo. Represented by his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the governor commended the convener and his Special Assistant/Chief Photographer, Idara Adiakpan, for her vision and excellence in redefining photography as a medium for storytelling, empowerment, and social transformation.
He described Adiakpan as a shining example of the kind of youth envisioned under his administration—one who thinks beyond limitations, transforms passion into purpose, and creates value through innovation.
Eno said, “She has achieved success beyond the call of duty because she believed in herself and refused to listen to those who doubted her journey.
“I implore our youths to reject the entitlement mindset, identify where their skills are needed, and position themselves for excellence.”
The governor noted that the ARISE Agenda of his administration was designed to equip young people with practical skills that promote financial independence, self-sufficiency, and creative fulfillment.
In her remarks, Idara Adiakpan said the Visual Conference was conceived to celebrate and amplify the work of photographers who use imagery to tell stories that bridge cultures and inspire change.
She said, “Photography is more than a craft; it is a universal language that connects, educates, and transforms.
“This year, we received 587 nominations across 15 categories from across Nigeria—each representing creativity, passion, and artistic brilliance.”
She expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for his continuous support and commitment to youth development, describing the event as proof of Akwa Ibom’s growing influence in Nigeria’s creative economy.
The event attracted some of Africa’s most celebrated photographers and creative icons, including Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Emmanuel Oyeleke, Bayo Omoboriowo, George Osodi, and Eduwem Ukpong, among others.
Also in attendance were the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), Hon. Aisha Adamu Augie; the Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Mr. Ayo Adeagbo; and other industry leaders from within and outside Nigeria.
Speakers at the event applauded Adiakpan’s initiative for promoting collaboration and innovation within the creative sector, noting that platforms like the Visual Conference are vital for nurturing emerging talents and enhancing Nigeria’s soft power globally.
The evening featured a vibrant art exhibition showcasing captivating images that celebrated Nigeria’s cultural diversity, resilience, and artistic ingenuity.
The highlight of the night was the presentation of awards in various categories, including Photojournalism of the Year, Creative Photograph of the Year, Wedding Photograph of the Year, and Beauty Photograph of the Year, among others.
