July 02, (THEWILL) — The Senior Special Adviser to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Health, Safety, and Environment, Mrs Jayne Ufot, has reiterated the commitment of Governor Umo Eno’s administration to safety and environmental protection in the State.

Mrs Ufot stated this during the flag-off of the 2025 statewide safety sensitisation and certification seminar for petroleum and gas operators, held at the Federal Secretariat, Abak Road, Uyo.

Jayne described the seminar as a strategic effort that aligns with the Governor Eno-led administration’s tempo of progressive governance, emphasising that safety is a key component of sustainable development and ethical public service.

Mrs Ufot, who highlighted the economic importance of the petroleum and gas sector in Nigeria, noted that its operations must be guided by discipline, precaution, and foresight to prevent accidents that can have far-reaching consequences.

“The petroleum and gas sector is critical to Nigeria’s economy. Its operations must be anchored on discipline, precaution, and foresight to prevent accidents with potentially grave consequences”, she noted.

She highlighted the steps already taken by the current administration to ensure safety compliance to include, the establishment of the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Health, Safety, and Environment, the recruitment of 100 safety officers, and the creation of an Occupational Health and Safety Department within the Akwa Ibom State Infrastructural and Asset Management Agency, among others.

She urged all petroleum and gas operators to take ownership of safety in their daily operations, stressing that proactive measures not only save lives and protect investments, but also enhance public confidence in both government and industry.
