September 16, (THEWILL) — A Makurdi-based legal practitioner, Barrister Akondo Aki, has posited that the returning governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has the constitutional right to sack the Commissioners who the outgoing Sole Administrator of Rivers State would leave behind.
In an exclusive chat with THEWILL on Tuesday, Barr. Aki noted that since the Sole Administrator is a product of illegality, all the appointments he made are also illegal, null and void and of no effect.
“You don’t work with people you don’t trust. Fubara is at liberty to dissolve, nominate and send the list of Commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for scrutiny and clearance for appointment”, Aki stated.
According to him, the current Commissioners in Rivers state are products of an emergency rule, advising the outgoing Sole Administrator to dissolve the State Executive Council before leaving office on September 18, 2025.
He stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as legally elected, should resume work with courage and consult widely before making decisions for the peace and good of the state.
It will be recalled that Governor Fubara was suspended on March 18, 2025, when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as sole Administrator for six months.
