May 25, (THEWILL) – The Benue State Government has debunked a report by Sahara Reporters alleging that Governor Hyacinth Alia is plotting to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid an alleged crisis in the state chapter of the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Makurdi, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, dismissed the report as false and described it as a product of “yellow journalism” by an online medium known for publishing unverified stories.
Kula stated that at a time when opposition governors are defecting to the ruling APC due to the impactful policies and achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, it was “laughable and baseless” for anyone to insinuate that Governor Alia would consider leaving the party he is actively strengthening in the state.
“There is no doubt about the Governor’s loyalty to the APC. He has been an active participant in the affairs of the party, including the recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election,” the statement read.
He added that Governor Alia’s presence at both the APC zonal and national meetings held at the Presidential Villa contradicts the narrative being peddled about a strained relationship with the Presidency.
Kula also refuted claims of a crisis within the Benue APC, noting that the party, under the chairmanship of Hon. Benjamin Omakle, maintains a cordial working relationship with the Governor. He said the party had demonstrated strong coordination during recent events, including the APC Policy Roundtable held in Abuja.
“It is appalling and disappointing that any medium would publish such outright falsehoods to question the presence of a sitting governor at an event he attended with his colleagues, under full media coverage,” he said.
The CPS urged members of the public to disregard the report, which he described as fake news, and to seek information from credible sources. He emphasized that Governor Alia has no plans to leave the APC, especially as Benue stands to gain more under the current administration.
Kula assured that Governor Alia remains committed to delivering good governance to the people of Benue State on the platform of the APC, through which he was elected into office.
