June 19, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia has commended President Bola Tinubu for his visit and show of solidarity with the people of Benue State in the wake of the deadly attacks in Yelewata community, describing the President’s presence as a source of hope and strength for the traumatised people of the state.
The governor said the President’s directive to security agencies to arrest those behind the killings and his pledge to collaborate with the state government to develop a sustainable peace framework demonstrate his commitment to ending the spate of violence in the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Makurdi by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor expressed deep appreciation to Tinubu for his proactive stance on the state’s security challenges, especially his marching orders to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate action.
“Your decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration,” Alia stated.
He also acknowledged the solidarity shown by his colleagues, particularly members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, noting that their united front against insecurity sends a strong message of national resolve and commitment to the protection of lives and property.
According to the statement, the people of Benue find solace in the compassion and leadership demonstrated by President Tinubu, fellow governors, and other well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period.
Alia reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to work with all critical stakeholders to rebuild affected communities and restore lasting peace across the state.
He assured the people that his government remains focused on healing the wounds, restoring livelihoods, and ensuring that Benue emerges stronger from the recent tragedy.
