January 02, (THEWILL) – Gunmen suspected to be bandits, have abducted a retired military officer, Col. Lawal Rabi’u Yandoto and four others, including his two children, in Zamfara state.
THEWILL gathered that Yandoto was on his way from Gusau to his home town, Yandoto, in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state when he was abducted.
A resident from the area, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen that the bandits ambushed the retired Colonel at around 6:00pm on Sunday and kidnapped him, along with his two children and two other victims, who were with him.
“We heard sporadic gunshots very close to our Yandoto town and everybody started running Helter Skelter for safety”, the source said, adding that after the gunshots, the community realised that the retired army officer was abducted.
Authorities in Zamfara have not confirmed the incident. Efforts to get response from the Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP. Muhammad Shehu, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
