May 04, (THEWILL) – Troops of Operation Desert Sanity 2 have rescued two of the three humanitarian aid workers abducted by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno
THEWILL had reported that three staff of Family Health International (FHI360), along with two security guards, were abducted during an attack on the NGO’s guest house in Gamborun Ngala on April 26.
However, an update on the development by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, said the two aid workers were rescued during a gun battle between the troops of the 21-Armoured Brigade, Bama, and the ISWAP fighters in the axis of Banki, Bama LGA.
Makama said during the gun duel, the victims jumped out of one of the vehicles of the terrorists and quickly identified themselves to the troops.
Two security guards abducted alongside the staffers and one other staff, who ran into the bush, are yet to be found.
