Gunmen Invade Ondo Community, Shoot Farmer, Kidnap Wife

March 05, (THEWILL) — Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have invaded a community in Akure, the Ondo State capital, shooting a farmer and abducting his wife.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying it occurred on Wednesday night at about 8:45 p.m. along Oda Road in the state capital.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the assailants attacked the residence of one Adesida Daniel, a tomato farmer in Isagba Community.

According to him, the farmer sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to resist the attackers who abducted his wife during the invasion.

“The command strongly condemns the criminal act carried out by suspected kidnappers who invaded the residence of one Adesida Daniel, a tomato farmer in Isagba Community, along Oda Road.

“During the incident, the victim sustained gunshot injury to his right hand while attempting to resist the assailants who had reportedly abducted his wife,” Jimoh said.

He explained that police operatives responded promptly after receiving a distress call and moved to the scene of the attack.

Jimoh said the officers rescued the injured victim and rushed him to the Police Clinic where he is currently receiving medical attention, while the area was secured.

The police spokesperson added that the Ondo State Commissioner of Police has ordered intensified security measures to track down the perpetrators.

According to him, the directive includes increased patrols, bush-combing operations and enhanced intelligence gathering within the affected community and neighbouring areas.

“The command assures residents that no effort will be spared in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” he said.

Jimoh also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station.
