Hoodlums Kill NSCDC Officer in Jigawa

August 05, (THEWILL) — The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has confirmed the killing of one of its officers, Superintendent Bashir Adamu Jibril, by suspected hoodlums while on official duty.

The officer, who was attached to the Corps’ Intelligence and Investigation Department, was reportedly attacked at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area, shortly after effecting the arrest of a criminal suspect.

According to a statement issued by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the officer was surrounded and fatally assaulted by a mob during the operation. He was rushed to the Dutse General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

The Command described the attack as a barbaric act of jungle justice, condemning it in strong terms and assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

“One of the suspected ringleaders has already been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend others who fled the scene,” the statement read.

The NSCDC paid tribute to the late officer, describing him as a brave and dedicated professional who served his country with honour and commitment.

The Command also called on members of the public to support security agencies in their efforts to rid communities of crime and criminality.
