SAN FRANCISCO, September 16, (THEWILL) – The National Assembly reconvened from its long recess on Tuesday, saying it has uncovered a sinister move by some forces from outside the Assembly to impeach the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Already, accusing fingers are currently pointing to some forces loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur even as the House warned that nobody can oust the Speaker.
Tambuwal, a loyalist of the Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wammako, one of the G-7 Governors, is believed to be leaning towards the New PDP led by Alhaji Kawu Baraje.
The House leadership on Monday in Abuja disclosed that it has uncovered plans to remove Tambuwal who is largely seen as an opposition member within the ruling PDP.
The officer, who made this allegations Monday in Abuja, told THEWILL thus: “A plot by some forces outside the National Assembly to weaken the leadership of the House has been uncovered.
“We have discovered that some people outside the House have perfected a plot to weaken the leadership of the All Progressives Congress with the ultimate goal of ousting the Speaker.”
He noted that “by dividing the ranks of the APC, they want to hit at the strong support base of the leadership”.
The lawmaker, who craved anonymity, further said, “We have found out that they have already recruited some members of the APC to destabilise the leadership and cause confusion. We are not unaware of their plot because they know full well that the opposition is the backbone of the Tambuwal leadership and such they have perfected plans to divide the opposition in order for them to have an easy ride in the House”.
The lawmaker further disclosed that “Some elder statesmen and our party chieftains are intervening as they have started talking to these members of the House on the need for them not to allow themselves to be used by anybody to achieve the sinister motives.”
According to the lawmaker, “However, I want to use this medium to make it crystal clear that the House remains one and indivisible body and we will vehemently resist any attempt by anybody to cause confusion in the House.
“Tambuwal and all principal officers of the House have been given a mandate by the Honorable members on June 6th 2011 and I want to say that, the Speaker will serve out his four year tenure no matter whose ox is gored. God made this leadership and as such, no one can oust Tambuwal.”
THEWILL recalls that Tambuwal is touted to be the joker of the opposition APC for the 2015 presidential race.
His closeness to the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other opposition politicians has been a source of concern to his party.
Some analysts say he may eventually square up against President Goodluck Jonathan for the PDP presidential ticket.
