January 14, (THEWILL) – The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed speculations of his planned defection from the party, describing them as a “hatchet job” orchestrated by political adversaries aiming to sow discord between him and President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Sunny Areh, the former Deputy Senate President reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the APC and the mission of delivering Delta State from what he termed “serial failed administrations” in the 2027 governorship election.
Areh said, “In the weird publication, it was alleged that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the Senate in the 9th Session, is scheming to abandon the All Progressives Congress to team up with Mallam Nasir el-Rufai to float a phantom new political party. The story is not only shocking but idiotic.”
He described the claims as baseless and emphasized Omo-Agege’s dedication to the APC, which led to an unprecedented performance in Delta State during the 2023 general elections.
“Having led the APC to its best-ever performance in the 2023 general elections in Delta State, where the party won two out of three senatorial seats, and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was narrowly cheated out of victory in the governorship election, associating his name with the political group allegedly being formed by the former Kaduna State governor is a fable without any basis whatsoever,” the statement added.
Areh further accused unnamed political actors of deploying blackmail and other tactics to sabotage the APC in Delta State.
“Let it be known that as the leader of APC in Delta State and having taken it through a record-breaking performance in the 2023 general elections, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege remains irrevocably committed, steadfast, and primed to the task of completing the job of rescuing the state from the serial failed administrations in 2027,” he said.
Omo-Agege, according to the statement, remains focused on steering Delta State toward true prosperity and development, leveraging its status as a key oil-producing state in the Niger Delta.
“Together with other progressive forces, he will move the state away from the trajectory of missed opportunities, failed policies, and entrenched corruption, charting a new path of growth and development,” Areh concluded.
