December 15, (THEWILL) – Former governor of Lagos State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said he would not turn down the numerous voices calling on him to contest the 2023 presidency.
Tinubu spoke after a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Northern Alliance Committee in Abuja on Tuesday.
The group was led to the meeting by its Chairman, Ambassador Lawal Mohammed Munir.
Tinubu told his host that he would make a declaration at the right time after extensive consultations with friends and associates.
“I am not going to turn them down”, but added that he would still effectively and widely consult, particularly brainstorm “with my friends” and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians his decision to vie for the 2023 presidency.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari is still in office and that he did not want to distract him from all the challenges he might face today.
In the light of this, Tinubu said he did not want to muddle the political waters, but that he would consult and make his programme known to the people.
“I am not going to turn them (Nigerians) down, but I will still effectively and widely consult, particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians.
“But the president is still in office, I don’t want to distract him from all the challenges that he might face today.
“So we will consult and make our programme known to the people later and the intention is clear. So you keep guessing”, Tinubu said.
The leader of the group, Ambassador Munir said the meeting was very successful.
“The meeting ended very well. We are working for him. We are working for him because we know he will win the election when the time comes”, he said.
