March 11, (THEWILL) — The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, on Wednesday, adjourned indefinitely the case arising from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ibadan national convention, urging the warring factions to resolve their differences amicably.
Presided over by a three-member panel led by Justice Biobele Georgewill, the court stated that if the parties fail to reach a settlement, they are free to return for further proceedings.
During the sitting on Wednesday, the justices advised counsel to provide proper guidance to their clients to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the dispute. The court also urged the lawyers to be mindful of time, particularly in view of the recently released electoral timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The appellate court acknowledged the March 4, 2026, motion by counsel to the appellant, Fredrick Ladapo, seeking withdrawal of the appeal, noting that it presented an opportunity for reconciliation. Justice Georgewill explained that once the parties present agreed terms before the court, the settlement would be adopted as the court’s judgement.
THEWILL recalls that the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, upheld a Federal High Court ruling barring INEC from recognising the results of the Ibadan convention, which produced Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as PDP National Chairman.
Party insiders welcomed the court’s guidance, stressing that an amicable resolution could help PDP present a united front ahead of the 2027 General elections.
