
December 09, (THEWILL) – Ibom Air, Akwa Ibom State’s flagship airline, took center stage on December 7 during the Christmas Unplugged 2.0 celebration at Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
The event, coinciding with International Aviation Day, featured electrifying performances from local and national entertainers, leaving attendees in awe.
The 32-day festival, organized by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, began on December 1 and runs until January 1, 2025.
Christmas Unplugged has gained recognition as one of Africa’s largest events, blending cultural entertainment, business opportunities, and corporate branding in a festive atmosphere.
Chairman of Ibom Airlines Limited, Mr. Imoabasi Jacob, welcomed attendees to a night of entertainment, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to rewarding its customers and promoting Akwa Ibom as a leading aviation hub and tourist destination.
“We are delighted to host you tonight. With Ibom Air, Akwa Ibom has solidified its position in the aviation industry and as a tourist haven in Nigeria. There’s no Christmas without Ibom Air. This evening, we are sharing the Christmas spirit by giving back to society,” Jacob said.
He pledged the airline’s dedication to maintaining its reputation as the preferred choice for air travelers seeking quality and reliable service. Jacob also acknowledged Governor Umo Eno’s policies that have supported Ibom Air’s fleet expansion and growth.
Entertainment Extravaganza
The event featured performances from renowned artists, including Timaya, who captivated the crowd with his signature hits.
Timaya’s appearance, clad in an orange jumper and baggy trousers, brought the audience to their feet, with fans jubilantly singing along and dancing to his tunes.
Other performers included Ikpa Udo, Nas Boy, and General Odey, who kept the festive energy high throughout the evening.
The celebration wasn’t limited to music; it also highlighted Ibom Air’s innovative initiatives. The winners of the Ibom Innovation Challenge, sponsored by Ibom Air during Ibom Tech Week 2024, were celebrated.
Chief Operating Officer of Ibom Air, Mr. George Uriesi, presented prizes to the three winners of the innovation challenge, commending their exceptional work in addressing real-world problems, including solutions for assisting passengers with disabilities.
“These innovators have done a fantastic job and deserve our support. Their contributions reflect the progressive spirit of Akwa Ibom and the values of Ibom Air,” Uriesi stated.
