June 6 (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has moved to accelerate the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport project, leading a high-level technical session with project partners in Paris, France, where stakeholders reviewed the project’s feasibility report and discussed pathways to implementation.
The meeting, held on Friday with officials of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group, focused on the recently submitted Technical Feasibility Report prepared by Worley Parsons, a key document expected to guide investment decisions and the execution framework for the multi-billion-dollar maritime infrastructure project.
Governor Eno used the session to press for faster progress on the project, calling for clearly defined timelines, measurable milestones and concrete next steps, which would move the initiative from the planning stage to actual construction and operation.
According to a statement issued by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the engagement provided an opportunity for government officials and prospective partners to examine critical issues relating to investment structures, project delivery mechanisms and long-term sustainability.
The governor reiterated the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Government to the successful delivery of the deep seaport, describing it as a strategic project capable of transforming the state’s economic fortunes and strengthening its role in regional trade.
Stakeholders at the meeting also reaffirmed their collective commitment to advancing the project, which is expected to serve as a major maritime, logistics and commercial gateway within the Gulf of Guinea when completed.
The Ibom Deep Seaport has remained one of Nigeria’s most anticipated infrastructure projects. Conceived as a deep-water port to complement existing maritime facilities in the country, it is designed to handle large cargo vessels and support industrial, export and logistics activities in Nigeria’s South-South region.
Analysts have projected that the project could attract significant foreign and domestic investments, create thousands of jobs and stimulate the development of related infrastructure, including industrial parks, transport networks and export processing facilities across Akwa Ibom State.
Governor Eno was accompanied to the Paris meeting by the Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Ibom Deep Seaport Project and former Director-General of NIMASA, Mrs Mfon Usoro; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr Frank Ekpeyong; Managing Director of Hensek Integrated, Engr. Uwem Okoko and other members of the state delegation.
