February 03, (THEWILL) — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly arrested a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh.
A family representative said Jamoh was intercepted by operatives of the anti-graft agency while returning to his residence from a court engagement in Kaduna. According to the source, he was subsequently taken to his home, where a search was conducted by ICPC officials.
THEWILL gathered that the former NIMASA director-general was later moved from Kaduna to Abuja for continued detention and investigation.
The family, however, alleged that since his arrest, Jamoh has been held incommunicado, without access to his family members or legal counsel. They expressed concern over his safety and described the detention as a violation of his fundamental human rights.
They called on the ICPC to disclose the allegations against him and ensure that due process is followed, including granting him access to his lawyers in line with constitutional provisions.
As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had yet to issue an official statement confirming the arrest or outlining the specific allegations against the former NIMASA boss.
