October 30, (THEWILL) — The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Nkechi Eze, as the pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the appointment follows the recent upgrade of the Force Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate.
The move, according to the statement, is aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and enhancing welfare support for police personnel nationwide.
AIG Eze, a seasoned dental surgeon and public health specialist with over 27 years of professional experience, is expected to lead reforms to build a more efficient, accessible, and modern medical support system for serving and retired police officers.
Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and originally from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Benin.
Her distinguished career has included postings in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, Abuja, and Lagos, during which she played key roles in advancing police medical services and improving personnel welfare.
While congratulating her on the appointment, the IGP urged Eze to bring her expertise, administrative competence, and extensive professional experience to bear in transforming the Directorate into a model of quality healthcare within Nigeria’s security sector.
He reiterated that the health and well-being of police personnel remain critical to the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
Hundeyin added that the creation of the Directorate aligns with the ongoing institutional reforms under the current police leadership, aimed at modernising the Force, boosting morale, and ensuring officers receive the medical attention required to meet national security challenges effectively.
