
May 10, (THEWILL) — The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has condemned the conduct of a police officer seen in a viral video circulating on social media, describing it as unacceptable and ordering immediate disciplinary action in line with the rules of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officer captured in the footage engaging in conduct described as inconsistent with the standards and ethics of the Force.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Force said it acted swiftly after the video surfaced online, leading to the identification of the officer as a Sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters in Ekiti State.
According to the statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the officer has since been taken into custody and is currently facing disciplinary action in line with the regulations guiding personnel conduct in the Force.
The police authorities disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a comprehensive psychological and medical evaluation of the officer as part of the disciplinary process.
The statement explained that the evaluation is a mandatory prerequisite aimed at ensuring that the Force not only addresses the alleged misconduct but also examines any possible underlying health concerns professionally and responsibly.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken firm and decisive action following the circulation of a video on social media showing a police officer in camouflage uniform displaying conduct grossly inconsistent with the standards of the Force,” the statement read.
The IGP reiterated that the Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards substance abuse and any conduct capable of undermining the integrity of the police institution or eroding public trust in law enforcement.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to accountability, professionalism, and strict enforcement of disciplinary standards among officers and men across the country.
