May 11, (THEWILL) – A frontline aspirant for the Cross River Central Senatorial Ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Akin Ricketts, has promised to engineer opportunities and redirect resources for the good of the people of the area.
Chief Ricketts disclosed this in an interview with THEWILL in Ugep.
He said when elected as Senator for the area, he will explore ways and manners of enhancing the living standard of people in the senatorial district.
In his words, “what it is, is that it is not only attaining the senatorial mandate of the party or winning elections, but also engineering opportunities, redirecting resources towards improving the living standards of our people.
“That is why I am saying that we need to look at ways and manners to enhance the living standard of our people, give them opportunities”, he said.
He also deplored the level of joblessness in the area, particularly among educated youths and promised to do something to address this.
Chief Ricketts, a former information commissioner in Cross River State, also told THEWILL that the sole aim of his senatorial ambition is to improve the wellbeing of our people in terms of enhanced access to employment, quality education, healthcare, training and business support.
This, he said, is all aimed towards poverty alleviation, so that people in the district can live better.
He also promised to bring his experiences to bear in the service of people.
According to him, “when we get there, we know what to do, what to engineer, who to talk to, how to spend our goodwill to enable us achieve our aims and objectives”, he said.
He advised delegates of the party to be sure of the people they send to represent the people of the senatorial district.
In his words, “we need to be sure of their character, personality, integrity, we don’t want to present candidates who will be flawed. It will be to our detriment.
“So my appeal to them is to open their eyes, weigh the characteristics of individuals who present themselves and make good decisions.
“For me, all I can say is that those who know me, know what I stand for, I stand for the people and I am the people’s person, who wants people around him to grow and improve themselves, I am a brother’s keeper so it all depends on the electorate”, he said.
