May 30, (THEWILL) – Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has promised to reconnect the state to the central government in order to reap the benefits of cooperation and check cases of insecurity affecting the state.
Governor Alia, who made the promise at the IBB Square, Makurdi, after he was sworn in as the 6th Executive Governor of Benue State alongside his Deputy, Samuel Ode, decried incessant killings by invaders.
“I will prioritise the security of lives and property of our people by ending insecurity occasioned by farmer/herder crisis, returning our IDPs to their ancestral homes and providing them a means of livelihood in a new economy,” he said.
According to him, Benue is faced with a situation of sustained insecurity, dampened morale from non-payment of salaries, pension and gratuity, dilapidated infrastructure, a broken economy, civil service, massive unemployment and underdevelopment, endemic corruption and malice.
“Benue is broken and needs a reset. The moment is here and the time is now. A new Benue is possible,” he stated.
Governor Alia said the time of politicking is over and called on all those that contested for the seat to join hands with him to develop the state to a greater height, saying he is not an APC Governor but that of Benue State.
He disclosed that the state will be industrialised through agriculture and massive rural development, which cannot be done through government alone and will create the conditions that promote private sector-led agriculture-driven industrialisation.
“We, like other countries and organisations, must move forward with digital transformation and the skills needed to implement them through investment in Information Communication Technology,” he added.
