March 20, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has reaffirmed his commitment to restore law and order, ensuring that governance functions smoothly and citizens feel safe in the State.
In his maiden statewide broadcast to the people on Thursday, Ibas warned against violence and crude oil sabotage, urging residents to resist any temptation to return to past hostilities.
Ibas, who outlined key measures to restore stability and governance in the state, assured that his role in Rivers is neither that of a partisan actor nor a competitor in the struggle, but a stabilising force entrusted with the solemn duty of restoring peace and order so that Rivers State can move forward once again and reclaim its rightful place as the oil and gas capital of Nigeria.
The retired naval chief declared his commitment to protecting civil liberties and upholding the rights of all residents. He called for unity, stating that his mission requires the collective support of all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation or ethnicity.
Warning that lawlessness would not be tolerated, Ibas assured that decisive action would be taken against those who threaten the peace of Rivers State. He, however, pledged to uphold the rule of law,
Ibas expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with this responsibility to restore peace in Rivers State. He also commended the National Assembly for the ratification of the emergency proclamation.
He pledged to work closely with the leadership of the National Assembly to ensure stability in Rivers.
