February 25, (THEWILL) – Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Officers are still stranded in Jos, the Plateau State capital, as arrangements to convey them to the destinations of their assignments have not been made by the INEC as is the traditional practice.
At the INEC headquarters along Miango Road, a few minutes ago, Collation Officers, mostly lecturers from the University of Jos, were still struggling to get their postings.
Dr. Francis Leman, a Mass Communication lecturer in the University of Jos, who is also posted to Ryom LGA as Collation Officer, confirmed that there are no logistics arrangements, including transportation, as INEC has told them to make private arrangements and get to their destinations.
The fear is palpable that some may not arrive at their destinations today, as it is certain that the struggle to get postings will end late and some will arrive rather late.
However, the turn out for the elections around Jos is quite high. In places visited like Hill Station Junction, Tudun Wada, Hwolshe, Kadima, Bukuru Low Cost, and Dadin Kowa, voter response was high, and accreditation had commenced.
The roads and major streets of the Jos-Bukuru Metropolis are verily empty except for security checkpoints manned mostly by military personnel.
