December 23, (THEWILL) – AC Milan’s hopes of challenging for the Serie A title were dealt another blow after they struggled to find a late equaliser to draw 2-2 with bottom club Salernitana. Despite taking an early lead through Fikayo Tomori, the Rossoneri were made to rue missed chances as the home side fought back to snatch a point.
Milan, who have struggled with injuries this season, welcomed back Ismael Bennacer and Davide Calabria. However, they were soon rocked by the early loss of Simon Kjaer, before Tomori later hobbled off with a suspected thigh injury.
After Tomori had headed Milan in front, Salernitana equalised on the stroke of half-time through Federico Fazio. The hosts then stunned San Siro by taking the lead after Mike Maignan’s howler allowed Antonio Candreva’s shot through.
As the game entered its final moments, Serbian strike,r Luka Jovic, who was twice denied by keeper Benoit Costil, finally found the net in the 90th minute to earn Milan a point they scarcely deserved.
The result leaves Milan eight points adrift of leaders Inter Milan having played a game more. With injury problems mounting for Stefano Pioli’s men, their Scudetto challenge is in danger of fading away.
