August 31, (THEWILL) – At the San Siro on Tuesday, Lautaro Martinez sealed Inter’s 3-1 triumph over Cremonese, after goals from Joaquin Correa and Nicolo Barella, in the first half gave the Nerazzurri complete control.
Early on, the hosts took the lead when Correa scored off the rebound of a shot by Edin Dzeko that had been parried, and just before halftime, Barella added a spectacular goal to make it 2-0.
After the break, Simone Inzaghi’s team slowed down, but they still added a third goal through substitute Martinez, even though Nigerian striker David Okereke provided a late consolation for the visitors.
The three points help Inter climb up to second place, just one point behind leaders Roma, as they recover from their 3-1 loss to Lazio on Friday. Cremonese have failed to earn a point this season and are only protected from being the bottom side by Monza’s much higher goal difference.
Up next for Milan is the Derby against city rivals Inter, while Cremonese, with their double Nigerian forward lineup of Cyriel Dessers and goal-scorer Okereke, will be trying for victory when they meet Sassuolo on Sunday.
