July 11, (THEWILL) — United States President Donald Trump has warned that Iran would face devastating military retaliation if it attempts to assassinate him, revealing that he has already directed the US military to remain on standby for a massive strike against the Islamic Republic should any such plot be carried out.
Trump issued the warning on Friday in a post on his Truth Social platform, declaring that the US had positioned “1,000 missiles” against Iran and that thousands more were ready to follow if Tehran acted on what he described as its longstanding threats against his life.
“‘1,000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!'” Trump wrote.
The president added that he had already issued orders to the US military, saying it was “ready, willing, and able” for a period of one year, subject to extension, “to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran.”
Trump’s latest warning comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges and the collapse of a ceasefire that had briefly eased hostilities between the two countries.
The remarks also follow reports by The Wall Street Journal and CNN that Israeli intelligence recently shared information with the United States about an alleged new Iranian plot targeting Trump.
According to the reports, US intelligence agencies are assessing the credibility of the intelligence while maintaining enhanced security around the president.
CNN reported that US officials had detected what it described as a “steady drumbeat of intelligence” in recent weeks indicating possible Iranian plans to target Trump, although authorities have not publicly concluded that any plot had reached an operational stage.
Security around the president was reportedly tightened during his recent visit to Ankara, Turkey. As part of the enhanced measures, Trump returned to the United States aboard a different presidential aircraft instead of the traditional Air Force One, while US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth cancelled a planned visit to Israel.
Trump has repeatedly asserted that Iran has been plotting to kill him since he authorised the January 2020 US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport that killed General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force.
The killing of Soleimani marked one of the most consequential moments in US-Iran relations in recent decades, prompting Iranian missile attacks on US military positions in Iraq and repeated vows by Tehran to avenge the senior military commander’s death.
Over the years, US authorities have announced multiple criminal cases and intelligence findings alleging Iranian-backed assassination plots targeting Trump and several former senior American officials involved in the operation against Soleimani
