June 24, (THEWILL) – U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday evening that Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire, signaling a possible end to nearly two weeks of escalating airstrikes between the two countries.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement would involve two 12-hour ceasefire windows, beginning with Iran and followed by Israel.
He stated that both nations would implement the ceasefire “after winding down and completing their ongoing final missions.”
According to Trump, the ceasefire will begin with Iran initiating a 12-hour halt in hostilities, after which Israel will observe a second 12-hour ceasefire.
After the 24-hour period, the war will officially be declared over.
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end what should be called ‘THE 12-DAY WAR,’” Trump wrote.
However, in the final hours before the ceasefire was set to take effect under the conditions outlined by Trump, Israel reported that Iran had launched a barrage of missiles, killing at least three people.
The conflict began on June 12, when Israel launched a series of strikes against Iran, targeting multiple military sites, including components of the country’s nuclear program.
Israel described the attack as a “preemptive” strike based on intelligence that Iran had “significantly advanced” toward acquiring a nuclear weapon — claims Iran has strongly denied.
Earlier on Monday, Iran escalated tensions by firing missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in the region, sparking concerns about broader regional instability.
As of press time, neither Israel nor Iran had officially confirmed the ceasefire agreement outlined by Trump.
