March 30, (THEWILL) — The political landscape in Nasarawa State took a decisive turn on Monday as the Accountant-General of the state, Musa Mohammed, resigned from office to formally declare his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he has “decided to serve” in response to widespread calls from citizens.

Mohammed made the announcement during a rally in Lafia, where supporters gathered in large numbers to witness his declaration and political unveiling. The event, marked by cheers and political excitement, saw him confirm that he had stepped down from his position as Accountant-General to enable him to pursue the governorship race.

Explaining his decision, Mohammed said the move was influenced by persistent appeals from residents across the state who urged him to offer himself for higher service.

“I have decided to sacrifice my stay in the office of the Accountant-General of Nasarawa State in response to your calls”, he said.

He further confirmed his resignation and expressed appreciation to the state governor for approving his exit from office.

“I have resigned my appointment. I appreciate my boss, Gov. Abdullahi Sule, for approving my resignation to enable me to pursue this ambition”, he stated.

Mohammed officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging to rely on grassroots support and continuity of governance achievements in the state.

“I hereby accept your call and offer myself to contest the 2027 governorship election with your support”, he added.

The former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, who served two consecutive terms between 2007 and 2015, said his experience in both legislative and executive positions has equipped him for higher responsibility and leadership.

He also pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the current administration if elected governor, describing continuity as key to sustained development in the state.

“I will do my best to consolidate on the successes recorded by the administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule. Having been part of this government, I have learned from the governor’s leadership capacity, resourcefulness and vision, and I assure you that I will not disappoint”, he assured.

Mohammed was appointed Accountant-General in 2023 by Governor Sule, following a long career in public service, including his tenure as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
