June 16, (THEWILL) — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has officially released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) mop-up exercise, clearing the way for the commencement of candidate ranking and the next phase of admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The development was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, who confirmed that candidates who participated in the mop-up examination can now access their results through the Board’s approved result-checking channels.
According to Benjamin, with the successful conclusion of the mop-up exercise and the publication of results, the Board will immediately begin ranking candidates ahead of the 2026 admission process. He added that printing of admission-related result slips is expected to commence before the end of the week.
Benjamin said the release of the results now clears the way for JAMB to begin ranking candidates who sat for the examination, while preparations for admission documentation are already underway.
“Following the successful conclusion of the mop-up exercise and the release of the results, the board will commence the ranking of candidates. Thereafter, the printing of results for admission purposes is expected to begin before the weekend”, he said.
The mop-up examination was conducted nationwide on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as a final opportunity for candidates who were unable to participate fully in the main UTME due to technical glitches, biometric verification challenges, absentee-related complications, or disruptions recorded at accredited Computer-Based Test centres.
JAMB said the exercise was specifically organised for candidates who had successfully undergone biometric verification during the main examination process but were prevented from completing the examination because of circumstances beyond their control.
Earlier, the Board described the mop-up examination as the final opportunity for affected candidates to sit for the 2026 UTME, indicating that no further supplementary examination would be conducted this year.
The release of the mop-up results effectively marks the completion of the 2026 UTME examination cycle, shifting focus to the admission process, where institutions across the country will begin considering eligible candidates based on merit rankings and established admission guidelines.
The 2026 UTME, which was conducted between April and May, attracted over two million candidates nationwide, making it one of the largest examination exercises in the country this year. In the weeks following the main examination, JAMB had also released hundreds of previously withheld results after concluding investigations into suspected examination malpractice cases.
JAMB, in its statement, also thanked candidates, parents, and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation throughout the examination period, particularly during the mop-up exercise organised to address lingering challenges encountered during the main UTME exercise.
