March 03, (THEWILL) – Former Governor of Plateau State and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Jonah David Jang, has urged the people of Plateau to build on and consolidate the success recorded by the PDP in the State in the February 25 elections by voting to ensure the party wins the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.
Noting that winning five out of eight House of Reps seats, and potentially all the three Senatorial seats in the State was a remarkable way to bounce back to power, Jang said such a feat would demonstrate the party’s preparedness to take over and restore the State to people-oriented political leadership.
In a statement issued in Jos, the former Governor reminded the electorates that “the governorship and state House of Assembly elections are almost here, and it is hoped that urgent steps will be taken to close the ranks, shelve all differences, and pursue the election as a common front. The manipulated presidential poll should propel us to do what is right to put all our candidates on a winning streak.”
He also admonished the people not to “allow our emotions to overtake our sense of purpose at this time; the successes achieved in the past election must be the driving force for more outstanding achievements in the forthcoming polls, which are, indeed, local. Having secured 5 out of 8 House of Representatives positions and 2 Senatorial positions already in the kitty with a third on the horizon, we should be working hard to install a Governor and a House of Assembly, who will join hands to stand for the interest of our dear state.
“May I use this opportunity to thank the good people of Plateau for speaking clearly with their ballots in voting for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate and House of Representatives elections, and congratulate the winners of the election? The pains and lessons of the past eight years, where we had the APC in government both in Plateau and at the national level without benefit, is instructive,” Jang noted.
He noted further that “the outcome of the presidential polls has shown where the leanings of Plateau people are. An APC government in the state is a subscription to further neglect, as experienced in the last eight years. Let’s not forget that the last eight years brought us untold hardship, and we were almost robbed of our identity.
“The time to act is now!”, he reiterated, adding that “the decision to build a virile Plateau where unending peace reigns is ours to make. We must not sit on the fence; we must defend our heritage, not just for ourselves but for our children and the oncoming generations.”
