June 26 (THEWILL) — Japan and Sweden settled for a 1-1 draw after an evenly contested FIFA World Cup clash that saw both sides enjoy prolonged spells of dominance without finding a decisive breakthrough.
Following a tightly fought first half, Japan finally broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a composed finish that rewarded their patient build-up play.
Sweden responded swiftly just six minutes later, drawing level through a determined attacking move after sustained pressure from a frontline featuring Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak, and Anthony Elanga.
Although Sweden created more danger from set pieces, winning eight corners compared to Japan’s two, they were unable to capitalise on their opportunities.
