February 18, (THEWILL) — Joy was cut short for the family of Mrs Oluranti Olufunmilayo Esther Akinyemi after the Nigerian mother died shortly after flying to the United Kingdom to attend her son’s graduation ceremony.
Mrs Akinyemi had travelled from Nigeria ahead of the ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, February 18. However, less than 20 hours after her arrival, she reportedly suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the middle of the night.
She was rushed to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital and later taken to another medical facility, where she was placed on life support. Despite medical intervention, she was declared clinically dead three days later.
The tragic incident was disclosed in a social media post on Tuesday by a user identified as @dhkrullah, who announced the death and appealed for public assistance on behalf of the family.
“With heavy heart, we regret to announce the passing away of Mrs Oluranti Olufunmilayo Esther Akinyemi. She travelled to the UK to attend the graduation ceremony of her son.
“However, less than 20 hours after arriving, she suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. After three days on life support, she was declared clinically dead”, the post read.
According to the post, the family is seeking urgent support to repatriate her remains to Nigeria, settle outstanding medical bills incurred during her hospitalisation in the UK, and cover funeral expenses.
