September 26, (THEWILL) — Amid speculations over his Presidential bid in the 2027 general elections, former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday met with Senator David Mark, the National chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at his residence in Abuja.
Jonathan was welcomed to the Abuja residence of the ADC Chairman by Mark, alongside some members of the party, a former Secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir Lawal, party spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi and a former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan, among others.
The visit comes amid intense pressure on the former president to run for Presidency in the next general election against incumbent President Bola Tinubu.
While Jonathan has not officially declared his candidacy, he has also refuted reports that he rejected calls to contest the 2027 Presidential Election.
THEWILL can report that Jonathan is seriously consulting and exploring a possible return to the presidential villa in 2027 and will likely declare his candidature after his consultations, according to a source with knowledge of his plan. “A Jonathan 2.0 in 2027 is possible,” one of the president’s allies told THEWILL early Friday morning asking not to be identified.
However, the visit of the former president to the ADC Chairman coincided with a Caucus meeting of the party on Thursday at Mark’s residence, where it ordered all members of the coalition to resign their membership of other political parties.
The Caucus meeting, according to a statement, said all presidential aspirants agreed to support whoever wins the party’s primary election.
“All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primary election. Though a final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the Caucus was silent on the timeline,” the party’s Interim spokesman, Abdullahi said in the statement.
At the meeting were Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, Babachir Lawal and Bolaji Abdullahi amongst several other leaders.
Candidate of the Labour Party and member of the coalition, Peter Obi did not attend Thursday’s meeting and checks by THEWILL hints that he will not be joining the ADC and would likely remain in the Labour Party. “This is appears to be his plan at least for now,” a source close to the former Anambra governor told THEWILL anonymously.
