December 01, (THEWILL) – Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has directed the 44 local government chairmen in the state to remain in their respective local government areas to ensure effective grassroots governance and address challenges hindering development.
Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made this call during the opening of a workshop for local government chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and secretaries.
The event, held in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria was themed *“Leadership and Professional Ethics.”
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo emphasized that local governments are the foundation of democracy, and their success depends on the commitment and leadership of administrators.
“You are the backbone of democracy. Your actions, decisions, and leadership have a direct impact on your communities, the state, and the nation. I urge you to remain in your LGAs, network, share knowledge, and adopt best practices to improve governance at the grassroots,” Gwarzo said.
He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising human capital development at the local government level and assured participants of his support for their growth and development.
The Deputy Governor also lauded the workshop for equipping local government administrators with essential tools for decision-making, particularly in the areas of conflict resolution and leadership ethics.
Chief Dr. Yomi Charles, Project Consultant from ASCON, highlighted the workshop’s focus on “Conflict Management” and “Qualities of a Leader.”
He noted that conflicts are inevitable in administration but urged participants to embrace transparency and accountability to navigate disputes effectively.
Zubairu Hamza Masu, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, commended the initiative, calling for a similar workshop involving members of the House and local government chairmen to ensure seamless administration across the state.
