November 08, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has presented a proposed budget of N549.16 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
The budget is tagged the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development.”
Addressing the Kano State House of Assembly on Friday, Yusuf outlined the budget’s focus on key social and economic sectors, prioritising human capital and infrastructure to drive development across the state.
The proposed budget comprises a capital expenditure of N312.63 billion and a recurrent expenditure of N236.53 billion, marking a capital-to-recurrent ratio of 57:43.
Education remains the largest beneficiary, with N168.35 billion allocated—31 percent of the total budget.
The governor stressed the government’s commitment to improving access to quality education despite limited resources.
The breakdown of the budget shows that the Health sector follows, receiving N90.6 billion, or 16.5 percent of the budget.
Other priority sectors include Agriculture with N21.04 billion (3.83 percent) and Infrastructure Development with N70.68 billion (12.87 percent).
In addition, N3.89 billion (1.22 percent) is allocated to Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, while Environment and Sanitation receive N15.52 billion (2.83 percent).
Yusuf also emphasised investment in governance institutions, which are allocated N98.24 billion (17.57 percent).
Security, Justice, and Emergency Services will receive N23.46 billion (4 percent) to enhance stability across the state.
Water Supply and Rural Development were allotted N27.24 billion (4.96 percent), and Transport Development is set to receive N12.81 billion (2.33 percent).
Funding for Women, Youth, and People with Special Needs stands at N17.34 billion (3.15 percent), underscoring the state government’s pledge to address inclusivity and uplift marginalised communities.

He stated, “We promise to faithfully implement the provisions of this budget for the well-being of our people
“Our commitment is unwavering in our resolve to alleviate poverty, create jobs, stimulate agriculture, and enhance our state’s overall welfare.”
